This artifact was originally created for our class wiki, but since access to that space is limited, I have uploaded the PowerPoint presentation via Window Live SkyDrive.
The PowerPoint presentation above represents the final artifact for this theme, which looks at an informal assessment framework based on social learning in an online environment. This form of assessment was chosen primarily for its familiarity to much of my own learning and for its flexibility and ease of access to the informal learner. The theories my framework is based on is a combination of Situated Learning Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Minimalism Theory. |
An Assessment Framework
Course: Online Technology in Education
Final Wiki Presentation: An Assessment Framework:Social Learning in an Online Environment. This artifact has been included in my portfolio as it represents my first design of an assessment framework, which was a task I found particularly confusing since I had no prior experience with assessment design, and did not feel adequately prepared to take on this task. As a result this assignment required a great deal more study and discussion than any of my other projects. However, in reflecting on this project I believe part of my confusion came from the many forms and uses of assessment in both academic institutions and the corporate world. Fortunately, further research brought forth the discovery of a paper discussing behaviorism, constructivism, and cognitive psychology in the design of instructional practice (Mishra, 2002), that greatly aided in my comprehension of the task by illustrating how the components fit together in the design of an assessment framework. Both this course and authentic assessment explored the various areas of academic assessment, while the Introduction to Adult Education course examined the practice of corporate training programs. Together these courses have provided me with a multidimensional perspective of assessment practices and while the project may not have been my best work, I came away from it with a greater awareness of the various kinds and purposes of assessment, as well as an appreciation for assessment design. Additionally, I have gained valuable knowledge from my research on learning theories, which were extremely helpful in the design of my assessment framework and proved to be very insightful in both my personal and professional life. |
