Why These Artifacts & How they Were Chosen?
Choosing artifacts for this area of learning required a great deal of reflection since each course in this masters program required the use and research of online technology, in both the nature of the program's design and in the completion of assignments. As a result it was necessary to develop a set of criteria with which to evaluate the projects for consideration in this theme. While there were a great many to choose from and most could function in multiple themes, the three showcased here demonstrate my learning of new technologies and their use in curricula, as well as a deeper understanding of how the computer can act as a tutor, tool, and tutee as discussed in Taylor's (1980) paper .
The artifacts for this theme are Creativity & Collaboration in Online Media, included for the large number of creative applications, and the variety of possible uses; The Majestic Poppy, which illustrates several technologies and some of the difficulties incurred when using technology, and it was my first experience working with a designed use of a mindtool in the grade 6 arts curriculum. The final artifact of my learning is the Technology & Me project, which technically is fairly simple and shows the creative possibilities of a common application (PowerPoint) that could be used when internet access is not available. Criteria Used in the Evaluation of Artifacts Demonstrates learning, either through mastery or less than expected results Connects to courses/theories in my program Highlights the diversity of open source technologies available Is an application that I would use again and recommend to others The project involved more than one medium and learning derived from more than one source |
